Greetings fellow mountain bikers,
Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers (SVMTB) is excited to wrap up 2025 with renewed energy and a forward trajectory. We want to send a heartfelt thanks from the bottom of our hearts for coming along with us this year. Thank you for showing up and advocating for trails at land manager public meetings, for following through on our calls for action, coming to our trail days, trail safety events, and all of our other fun events we held this year. We would not have this momentum without your donations and your support!
As we look back at 2025, we are proud of what we’ve achieved.
Major Advocacy Wins: Our board collaborated closely with regional land managers—including Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MidPen), San Mateo and Santa Clara County Parks, and the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority—to secure future trail access. Explore our biggest advocacy milestones in the next section!
Stewardship & Trail Days: We hosted four major trail days this year, mobilizing our community to maintain the dirt we love:
- Santa Clara County Parks: Across three events at Santa Teresa and Sanborn/Skyline, volunteers worked side-by-side to give back to our trails.
- Soquel Demo Forest: We capped the year with over 100 volunteers—including our sponsored youth teams—to repair berms, meet new people, and party afterwards with a BBQ and raffle.
Community & Safety: SVMTB hosted two trail safety events with Santa Clara County Parks and Midpen. These events united diverse user groups, including the Santa Clara County Horsemen’s Association and Newt Patrol, to foster mutual respect and safety on multi-use trails.
Youth & Events: We remain committed to the next generation of riders by sponsoring four local youth mountain bike composite teams: Black Mountain, Woodside Beasts, South County, and San Jose. We also proudly supported the Calabazas BMX Jam, celebrating our local talent.
Expanding Our Network: Strategic Growth – SVMTB attended CAMTB’s Single Track Summit, connecting with advocacy leaders across California to bring fresh, innovative ideas back to our region.
Growing Influence: Our community is stronger than ever, with our social media reach expanding to nearly 3,000 followers on Facebook and over 600 on Instagram.
Looking Ahead to 2026
We have an exciting year ahead! We are kicking off 2026 with a bike repair event with the Silicon Valley Bike Exchange to help those in need. We are also re-launching our mountain biking classes and debuting a new program to empower girls through bikes. Visit our Upcoming Events page for more details.

2025 Big Wins for Silicon Valley Mountain Biking
We are thrilled to share a series of landmark victories for our local riding community. These milestones are the result of years of advocacy, collaboration, and a shared vision for better trail access.
- $200k Win: Your response to our calls for action helped win $200k from the City of San Jose for repairs at Calabazas Bike Park (work begins early 2026).
- Pump Track Task Force: We successfully advocated for the formation of a task force to explore building a new pump track for Santa Clara County Parks. Our board is following this project closely.
- Hawthorns (Windy Hill) – A Seat at the Table: After more than two years of dedicated work by SVMTB board member Charlie Krenz on the MROSD Hawthorns Working Group, we have successfully secured bicycle access and regional trail connections for this vital area.
- The Beatty Project – Access First: In a major strategic win, we successfully advocated for trail construction to begin ahead of new parking lot development. By working closely with MROSD and the Newt Patrol, we ensured that trail access remains the primary priority.
- A 30-Year Breakthrough in Los Gatos: In one of the most significant wins in decades, the MROSD Board has officially designated “Trail Alignment 2” as multi-use. This new 2-mile narrow trail segment is a game-changer, allowing riders to pedal directly from town to the dirt—no car or bike rack required.
- Opening Doors at Bear Creek Redwoods: For the first time in its history, Bear Creek Redwoods will be open to bicycles. We secured approval for a new multi-use connector trail by building consensus through “boots on the ground” advocacy—hiking the terrain alongside Midpen leadership and equestrian stakeholders to find common ground.
- The Road Ahead – Our Los Gatos Vision: We are gaining significant momentum on our proposed trail network in Los Gatos. By demonstrating that mountain bikers are responsible land stewards and environmental advocates, we are changing the conversation. Stay tuned for upcoming volunteer opportunities to help us build and maintain these incredible new spaces.
