1. Calabazas BMX Bike Park (San Jose)

What:

  • Advocate for major safety and flow improvements at Calabazas BMX Bike Park, one of the largest city-funded BMX courses in the Bay Area.
  • Work with San Jose District 1 Council Member Rosemary Kamei and city staff to secure a larger, long-term budget for rebuilding and modernizing the park.
  • Support opportunities for SVMTB-led volunteer dig days once the park is stabilized and upgraded.

Why it matters:

  • Calabazas is a treasured community park where kids, families, and riders of all ages gather — a vital outdoor space in San Jose’s urban core.
  • Over time, features have degraded, momentum has been lost, and dangerous “mixing zones” have appeared, creating safety issues and collisions.
  • Poor drainage forces seasonal closures, while the lack of natural skills progression leaves gaps between beginner and advanced features.
  • Upgrades are needed to reinforce dirt surfaces, restore flow, and create a safe, progressive riding environment that lasts.
